Maintaining good health should be the primary focus of everyone - Sangram Singh
Welcome! I’m not sure we’ve met? Well hi, my name is Amanda Severson and this is my blog, where I write about the importance of your health and wellness and teach you all about how to make it a focal point in your life, as well as sharing some stories and adventures with you! So why don’t you stick around awhile, because today I am going to start off with the basics: The Importance of Drinking Water.

The Importance of Drinking Water
Water is what we live off of. Water is a necessity in our life. In fact, there are many ways we can benefit from drinking it. Now with this in mind, are you drinking enough water? Studies show that the recommended amount of water the average person should be drinking daily is eight 8 – ounce glasses. You may find reaching for that root beer may be good enough to quench your thirst at the time, but what about in the long run? I am about to tell you all the amazing benefits that come from water, and hopefully then you’ll consider reaching for the water next time. Here are only some benefits of water:
- Flushes out toxins
- Improves your complexion
- Boosts immune system
- Prevents headaches and cramps
- Increases brain power and energy
- Helps with weight loss
- Helps digestion
Now to get into more detail about these benefits:
1. Flushes out toxins
Water can flush toxins out of your body, also known as giving your body a detox. Water flushes toxins and waster from the body while transporting nutrients to where they are needed. This can also be helpful once you are regretting eating that whole box of chocolates that were on your kitchen counter, staring you down. The water will be able to help eliminate some of that and flush it out of your system
2. Improves your Complexion
Water can play a big role in your skin. Like I was talking about above, water can flush out toxins from your body, including skin toxins. Water also helps your digestion and circulation, which I will get to later, which also can affect your skin in a very beneficial way. Water can help with skin problems such as acne, wrinkles, fine lines, rosacea, dry skin, oily skin, and dark circles. Wait, so your saying I can just drink water and it will fix all my skin problems? No, nothing in this world is that magical for you skin but drinking water will certainly help you out!
3. Boosts Immune System
Drinking water will help put oxygen in the blood in our bodies, which will pump up our cells and get them moving and functioning to the fullest. Also, with the water removing toxins, this will mean there will be less toxin buildup which would have led to harming your immune system.
4. Prevents Headaches and Cramps
Water can prevent and help heal headaches. Take tension headaches for example, these can be caused by fatigue, caused by dehydration. Along with that, other headaches and migraines thrive on dehydration. So the less water you drink, the more the headaches will be partying and causing a commotion up in your head. So drink up! Along with headaches, water can also prevent and treat cramps. Cramps can be caused by not getting enough fluids and then your muscles tighten up. Drinking water will ease those cramps.
5. Increases Brain Power and Energy
Your brain is mostly water, and drinking water can help your brain power in numbers of ways, such as improving your concentration and cognition. It also increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain. It can also increase your energy by balancing and uplifting your mood and emotions.
6. Helps with Weight Loss
Drinking water can boost your metabolism, cleanse your body of waste, and can make you less hungry all the time. These all will help with weight loss. Also, drinking more water will help your body stop retaining water, which are just sitting there making you bloated. Leading to dropping the pounds there that are water weight
7. Helps with Digestion
The last benefit I am going to talk about today is that drinking water can help with digestion. Water will help break down food molecules so that your body will be able to absorb all of the nutrients. It will also soften stool, preventing constipation. To maximize the digestion benefits, drink water 30 minutes before a meal to help with digestion. Also, drink water an hour after the meal to allow the body to absorb the nutrients.
Those are all of the ways that water can benefit you and reasons to drink it over other, sugar filled drinks. If you are still questioning why you should drink water, maybe because you don’t like the taste or think it doesn’t even have any taste, here is a way you can spice it up:
How can I make water not so… plain?
One of my favorite ways to make water taste better is by infusing it with fruit. I love to add some cut lemons in a water bottle and let it sit there overnight. In the morning it is filled with a fun burst of flavorful which also results in me drinking more water throughout the day. You can also add different fruits and combine some to make the perfect mix to always keep you hydrated! Doing this will also add antioxidants to you drinks (there will be an upcoming blog on antioxidants!) along with other benefits!
Here is a great website that I like to use that has different water infusing recipes:

This also includes adding some herbs to your water along with fruits which also can be a wonderful way to add some extra benefits to water!
I hope you enjoyed this blog on the importance of water and hopefully it inspires you to step up your water intake game! Challenge yourself to drink the full eight 8 ounce glasses recommended daily, as will I!
With every blog I write I have your best intentions in mind and I hope that every blog helps you take another step forward in the right direction towards your healthiest lifestyle! Like my logo shows, be a tree, which grows into their strongest and best self with the right care and maintenance!
Bye for now!
